My name is Andrew Davies or Andy to my friends, I have lived all my life in Liverpool, England. This means I am a very proud scouser, now for anyone who may be reading this beyond England, it’s time to ask Google. Aged just 46, I was diagnosed with MS Multiple Sclerosis. Like many, I had heard of MS, but I had no real idea about the disease or its symptoms. Once you are given a ‘chronic life sentence’, you begin to learn quickly. And even though the medical experts tell you not to search for information about your particular disease, you quickly fall into the trap. The term chronic simply means there is no known cure.
I received my diagnosis in 2011, shortly after this I had to give up work. As a teenager, I could best be described as a closet nerd. During these informative years, I found technology fascinating and fortunately this opened a door into my career. Although, this career took a sideways turn when I discovered the ability to sell technology products and services. Sales and marketing now occupied my nerdish thirst for knowledge, applying newfound skills and techniques brought rewards. Even though my working life was over, I received a prestigious Fellowship to the CIM Chartered Institute of Marketing in 2015. Shortly after this, I created a niche marketing company, partly to retain cognitive brain activity. I collaborated with a couple of highly skilled young professionals who were beginning their careers in the field of marketing.
I had to fold the enterprise in 2022 due to worsening health. This coincided with an announcement that I was planning to write a novel. Thinking about something and outwardly declaring it suddenly made it real. The concept and skeleton plan for the storyline had been brewing for a while before this, but now, I could concentrate on making it real. It is essential that effective fictional writing resonates emotionally with the reader and maintains a sense of credibility. To deliver this, the writer must sacrifice elements of their own life and those close to them. I became a magpie, stealing little gems, stories and characters were adopted and adapted to enhance the credibility. Research now became my escape from the realities of daily symptoms and struggles caused by the disease.
After numerous rewrites and edits, I have finally completed my first novel, The Evolution Disturbance. It is my hope that this text will offer you a new perspective and encourage you to critically evaluate the information we have been provided in the past. I have confidence in science and believe it will consistently provide solutions to all our questions. Charles Darwin gave us the understanding of our existence, astrophysics provided the answer to our beginning, but what if? The Evolution Disturbance scratches the surface and discovers a simple unanswered question. Don’t be daunted by the science, everything is clearly explained. All you need is an open mind and a curiosity to ask that critical question, what if?
This is not science fiction, rather it’s fiction based on known science.
